Matulewicz: DA failed to investigate (Article on the Meet the Northumberland County Candidates event hosted by the Brush Valley Chamber of Commerce)

"SHAMOKIN— Attendees were welcomed by Corinne Betzko, chamber director, and
Steve Minker, president of the chamber’s board of directors. Candidates
were introduced by Andy Heintzelman, editor of The News-Item, which
sponsored the event at the Original Italian Pizza restaurant. Candidates
for sheriff and county commissioner, speaking in alphabetical order,
were also given five minutes each to address the chamber members and
guests.
Sheriff
Ed Quiggle Jr. (Libertarian) — Quiggle said he was running for sheriff, in part, to give people a
ballot choice. Quiggle, the elected constable in Sunbury’s Ninth Ward,
said the sheriff ’s office should push back against government
overreach. For example, he spoke with
admiration about a sheriff in Indiana who refused to allow the Food and
Drug Administration to conduct a raid because the agency had not first
secured a warrant. Under his administration, the sheriff’s office would
not participate in the civil asset forfeiture program, he said.
A sheriff, he believes, should be a defender of individual property
rights and privacy rights and, to that end, he said he opposes use of
drones in law enforcement activities.
Commissioner
Quiggle (Libertarian) — Quiggle, who is a candidate for commissioner in addition to sheriff,
said the two major parties have failed and people should consider
Libertarian candidates as viable alternatives. He said he would like the
next board of commissioners to lower taxes but if that is impossible,
commissioners should at least avoid future increases. “High taxes will
not attract business,” he said.
Quiggle said there is a need to
reduce waste and make government more efficient. Government, he added,
should not pick favorites and should get out of the way of business."

Libertarians Offer Alternative to the two Party System in Sheriff and Commissioner Races
The Sunbury American - October 2015 issue
http://thesunburyamericannews.tumblr.com/post/130655595637/libertarians-offer-alternative-to-the-two-party
"When voters in Northumberland County go to the polls this November, they
will find more choices for Commissioner than ever. The county is set to
have a record 7 options on the ballot. In addition to the customary two
Republicans and two Democrats, voters will find two Libertarian choices
in Ed Quiggle, Jr. and John Burd, plus Independent Bill Shambach. Even
with all those options already available, Tom Webb of Spygass Ridge
Winery has announced his intention to run as a write-in. Libertarian
Quiggle is also a candidate for Sheriff, and is the only challenger to
the current appointed Sheriff, Robert Wolfe. Ed Quiggle, Jr., is
endorsed for Sheriff by the nationally known former AZ Sheriff, Richard
Mack. Quiggle, who is the elected Constable of Sunbury’s 9th ward and a
member of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association,
recently came in third place in a Daily Item online poll for the
commissioners race having only been “bested” by Sam Shiccatano and Kym
Best.
“I was kind of surprised by the poll results,” Quiggle said.
“I think the poll result is a sign that people are sick of the status
quo and want an alternative with new ideas. I believe I offer that
choice in both the Sheriff and the Commissioner races.” Quiggle
continued, “John Burd and I are candidates who believe in the
Constitution, and who will fight to protect the rights of the people of
this county. The 2 major parties have failed us, and it is time that the
people had an alternative.”"

Libertarian Candidate for Sheriff Receives Endorsement
The Sunbury American - September 2015 issue
http://thesunburyamericannews.tumblr.com/post/128303688787/libertarian-candidate-for-sheriff-receives
"Sunbury, PA - Ed Quiggle, Jr., the Libertarian candidate for Sheriff of
Northumberland County, has received the endorsement of a nationally
known figure, former Graham County, AZ Sheriff Richard Mack. Sheriff
Mack was one of just six Sheriffs to sue the Clinton administration all
the way to the Supreme Court and win, over unconstitutional provisions
of the gun control act known as the Brady Bill. Mack went on to form the
Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA), and the
County Sheriff Project. Mack is also a board member of the group Oath
Keepers. Sheriff Mack recently spoke at the 2nd Amendment Action Day at
the capitol in Harrisburg. Quiggle, who currently serves as the elected
State Constable for Sunbury’s 9th Ward is a member of the CSPOA, and
worked with them on a resolution to stand in defense of the rights of
the people, at the national CSPOA conference in January 2014 in Las
Vegas, NV. On the CSPOA website (www.cspoa.org)
Quiggle is also listed among over 500 sheriffs, police, constables, and
other peace officers who have stood in defense of the 2nd amendment.
“I
am very proud to have received the endorsement of Sheriff Mack, he is a
true patriot and oath keeper. Mack understands that I am running to
give the people of Northumberland County a choice, a choice for a
Sheriff who will stand in defense of the rights of the people, even if
it means standing up to the state and federal governments,” Quiggle
said. “I am running on issues that I believe are extremely important, I
want to make sure the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office will stand
up for the right to privacy, the right to keep and bear arms, the right
of people to use medicine they need, and a Sheriff’s Office that
prohibits the use of drones and civil asset forfeiture, and opposes the
militarization of law enforcement and the surveillance state. I think
the Sheriff should require body cameras for himself and his Deputies,
and should form a citizen posse to help enforce the law. If elected
Sheriff I will work to create these reforms.” You can find out more
about Quiggle’s campaign platform on his campaign website at www.electquiggle.tk
Ed
Quiggle, Jr., is also running as one of the two Libertarian candidates
for Northumberland County Commissioner. John Burd, of Coal Township, is
the other Libertarian candidate for Commissioner."

on the November Ballot
The Sunbury American - August 2015 issue
http://thesunburyamericannews.tumblr.com/post/125675597077/3-libertarians-to-be-on-the-november-ballot
"Three
Libertarians have filed as candidates for the November election. Ed
Quiggle, Jr. filed for Sheriff and County Commissioner, John Burd filed
for County Commissioner, and Dale Wolf filed for Shamokin Area School
Board. The countywide races needed 217 signatures and the Shamokin Area
School Board candidate needed 100 signatures to qualify. The candidates
filed more than one hundred signatures over the requirement, with plans
to submit more before the August 3rd deadline. Ed Quiggle, Jr.
currently serves as the elected State Constable of the 9th Ward of the
City of Sunbury, having been elected as a Republican write-in candidate
in November 2011. Quiggle has won other small local offices in the past
but turned them down, in 2013 he ran as an Independent for Sunbury City
Council, but was not successful finishing in 4th place in a 6 way race.
He recently testified before a joint hearing of the state House of
Representatives Judiciary and Health committees in favor of legalizing
medical marijuana, and he is also the founder of the group People of
Sunbury United for Medical Marijuana. “I’m running to give people a
choice, in the Sheriff race there will be no choice on the ballot
without my candidacy.”"
